Boekel Scientific introduces two blood centrifuges for blood bank purposes. The SERO 12 version has two interchangeable two-stage rotors that can fit 12 tubes and 6 specimens, respectively. The 642M is a mobile phlebotomy centrifuge that is designed to work in a mobile donor van or within a field hospital setup.

The majority of blood bank testing requires the centrifugation of specimens to isolate the red blood cells from the plasma. Centrifugation is also a crucial component of the analytical phase of blood bank testing. Once the patient specimens are centrifuged in the blood bank receiving area, the patient plasma is tested against known red cells and centrifuged again to check for antibodies. Likewise, the patient red cells are tested against known ABO/Rh antibodies and centrifuged to check for patient blood type. Prior to any transfusions of patients with antibodies, patient plasma is again tested against donor red cells and centrifuged to check for major incompatibilities. Additional advanced blood bank testing, such as antibody titrations and elutions, also utilize tube agglutination via centrifugation.

The SERO 12 centrifuge is specifically designed for all blood bank testing needs. Taking up less than 1.5 square feet, this centrifuge can easily fit on any blood bank work bench and can work in tandem on busier work benches. It comes with a 12-place removable two-stage rotor that provides a 45o centrifugation angle allowing for a perfect cell button formation in 10mm x 75mm and 12mm x 75mm blood bank test tubes. For smaller blood banks, the same centrifuge can be utilized to centrifuge incoming phlebotomy specimens (additional 6-place rotor required for 6mL pink / 7mL lavender tubes). The interchangeable rotor design is also helpful when using 10mL clot specimens and for quickly transporting tubes around the lab.
